Welcome
There are stories from victims of domestic violence of instances where the person from whom he or she receives spiritual leadership of referral of the parties (victim and batterer) to couple's counseling. There are also suggestions from these same leaders that the victim misunderstood or misinterpreted a single situation of anger as domestic violence or abuse. There are episodes of referral to scriptures that hav been erroneously construed to be a mandate of submission to an apparent hierarchy of authority at any cost, isolating the victim, the batterer and the innocent bystanders from the very thing that will begin the healing process
IDENTIFICATION OF INDIVIDUAL ISSUES AND PROBLEMS.
Church leaders are challenged to take the necessary steps to become the catalyst for change. Through networking, individual reading materials or any devices within their reach, pastors, ministers, teachers and counselors have at their disposal numerous vehicles with which to prepare themselves to deal with the individual needs of their spiritual community. The acknowledgement of the existence of domestic violence is only the first step. The same leaders must equip themselves to speak to the victims, the batterers and even the innocent bystanders about what must be done.
Here is the beginning of that difference.
By identifying and addressing the potential existence of domestic abuse and violence even amongst our Christian brothers and sisters, we do much to begin to make and even be the difference this world needs to stop this horrific epidemic that ravages our homes, our schools and our churches.
